  • Fundraising and communications consultants specializing in limited and interim project management for non-profits; work with a diverse range of organizations, from well-established organizations with large institutional budgets to volunteer focused groups
  • Representative client activities include:
    • Development of individual major donor programs, membership appeals, direct mail campaigns, and corporate and foundation relations (private, government, and multi-lateral) with strategies and recommendations for growth or strategically focused fundraising
    • Creation and production oversight of fundraising communications strategies (appeals, newsletters and e-blasts, annual report)
    • Coordination and/or oversight of events (fundraisers, member development and friend-raisers, major donor cultivation, galas, board meetings, symposia) including budget development, fundraising and sponsorship strategies, event time-line management, guidance of volunteer committees, and event production
    • Creation and implementation of communications and public information strategies including media outreach, and management of creative/production processes; includes targeted marketing and advertising campaigns 
    • Oversight of a travel program with two international trips annually; initiated plans for a domestic travel program
    • On-going reporting to Board of Trustees, Development Committee, and National Advisory Councils
 Development Director, National Museum of Women in the Arts, 2003–2004
  • Responsible for the museum’s Development and Membership Division; supervised staff of 7 full-time, 1 part-time, and 4 volunteers
  • Completed thorough assessment of the department and implemented a staffing plan with policies, procedures, and reporting structures
  • Completed an audit of the $25 million endowment campaign and began preparations for a re-launch with greater Board and executive involvement
  • Direct responsibility for budget in excess of $3.5 million including unrestricted and restricted fundraising: membership (35,000 total high and low dollar members), renewals, acquisitions, annual appeals, major individual gifts, corporate membership, public and private grants; also worked closely with the curators and Director for restricted/exhibition funding (apx $1 million in FY04)
  • Solicitation, stewardship and cultivation of Board members, Business & Professional Women’s Committee, Women’s Committee, corporate partners, endowment campaign donors, and other high dollar donors
  • Oversight of 4 major fundraising events annually (revenue budget $600K in FY04)
 Director, Heritage Society, National Trust for Historic Preservation, 1999-2003
  • Managed Heritage Society membership of 1,400 national major donors donating between $1K and $100K annually.  Exceeded goals for retention and new members
  • Established and administered the department annual budget, netting $1.7 million in FY01
  • Produced semi-annual twelve-page newsletter. Created new brochures for travel opportunities for high-end donors
  • Coordinated annual fundraising cultivation and travel opportunities with the President, Executive Vice President, capital campaign staff, 6 regional offices, and 21 historic site
  •  Provided the President and Executive Vice President with appropriate strategies, plans of action, implementation, and reports of progress on annual fundraising activities 

Development Director, The Historical Society of Washington, DC, 1997-99

  • Coordinated board giving, membership, annual appeals, and special events
  • Cultivated, solicited, & stewarded foundations, corporations, and major individual donors
  • Managed a new Board initiative to attract corporate members which included training Board members on solicitation techniques.  Introduced 14 new corporate members
  • 75% success rate with foundation proposals; increased foundation gifts by 31%
  • Added over 30% new individual members; introduced tracking and renewal procedures
  • Wrote/edited and produced the quarterly newsletter and annual report
 Assistant Development Director, Foundation Relations, Whitman Walker Clinic, 1996-97
  • Developed the Aids Walk Foundation, a competitive grant redistribution of Aids Walk funds to grass-root organizations
  • Identified and approached national and local foundations for the Clinic’s four Metro DC locations; cultivated and stewarded donors
  • Assisted with other fundraising initiatives such as the National Aids Candlelight March, Aids Walk, and the annual gala
 Acting Assistant Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations, College of William & Mary, 1995-96
  • Collaborated with the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations on identification of prospects, implementation of fundraising plans, site visits, and stewardship
  • Prepared and distributed “Seeking External Funding: A Manual for Faculty at the College of William & Mary”
 Operations Manager, Westcan Insulators, Saskatoon, Canada, 1983-1988
  • Responsible for the non-design elements of an independent contracting business; included financial, human resources, and consumer relations
 Personnel and Operations Manager, Zeller’s Ltd., Edmonton, Saskatoon, Fort McMurray, Canada, 1979-1983
  • In three different cities and in department stores of vastly increasing size and sales, responsible for all non-selling store operations including financial transactions, inventory management, human resources, restaurant, security, and building maintenance
